holy shit. i stayed in that exact hotel facing the same view 12 days before this… thats amazing, seeing that would have made up for hardly seeing any lava flow.
Historically, Coconut Island (seen here) in Hilo Bay was inundated strongly enough to damage or destroy structures on it, as well as the footbridge to it, in the tsunamis of 1946, 1952, 1957, and 1960. If there had been a substantial wave (or more than one) this time, this view would’ve been very dramatic.

Im stationed here on the Marine Corps base in Oahu. Everyone was out waiting for something spectacular but we didnt even see anything. I think this video is from the island of Hilo (the big island). Cool video!

I saw this on the live webcam. wierd to see every 3 minutes filling the bay, then 3 min. later seeing the bay emptying.
I think it where very long waves with a long length(L), thats why the bay had time to fill and go down.
