  1. The Ventures have never been a ‘one hit wonder’, a simple wiki will tell enough.

@sushman ….I have no idea how old you are or where you live, but it is obvious you were not around here in America during the 60′s!….One hit wonder indeed. The Ventures were/are a famous group here with many, many hits. One hit wonders do NOT get inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. Even for many of the huge greats it takes years and years to earn that honor.

It’s hard to comprehend why the the R&R Hall would wait until many members of many of the most influential bands in rock were either dead, or dying, before giving them recognition. Yet, they have no problem inducting people like Madonna in her first year of eligibility. The real bite with Madonna was that she couldn’t even perform live at the induction. The stage must not have been big enough for the massive technical support needed for her to sound even passible.

@sushman That earlier reply that the Ventures were #61 in total sales in the 1960s. I’m not sure if that’s correct (seems low to me, maybe he’s only talking about singles) but according to Billboard the Ventures were the #6 album sellers for the whole decade of the 60s, and among rock acts only Elvis and the Beatles sold more albums in the USA in the 1960s. ps I like Tull and the Moodies too.

The Ventures have had more than one hit…it all started with Walk Don’t Run, which was in the Hall Of Fame long before they were inducted. They also rank #61 in sales for the entire decade of the sixties. H5-0 reached only #4 (1969)…WDR was #2. There were also several other hits, though not that high.

@venturenut I was really dissapointed to not find Don’s jazzmaster when I visited the Hall in 2009. I have found several videos confirming that its in the hall but I looked everywhere and it was nowhere to be found ;(. Hopefully its having its own place in the hall for the Ventures and it’ll be there the next time I go one day.

“Walk – Don’t Run” was actually the Ventures’ biggest hit, #2 for 1 week. “Perfidia” only made it #15, while the remake (“Walk – Don’t Run ’64) made to #8, and of course, “Hawaii Five O” made it to #4. “Storefront Lawyers” another television theme composed by Stevens and performed by the Ventures, never charted.

  19. emerpus01

They had a couple top 10 hits besides HFO – Walk Don’t Run and Perfidia, I believe.
