The incomparable Gracie Allen and Eleanor Powell in this show-stopping number from the hit 1939 MGM musical of the same name. The song captures the Magic and Romance of Hawaii’s Golden Age. When getting there was truly half the fun. Alas, this song and musical have not fared well, and have been all-but-forgotten, except for the truest Kama’aina. Fortunately, the song and musical have receive a reprieve and rebirth lately after being used in such wonderful documentaries as “Waikiki-In the Wake of Dreams.” Enjoy! Aloha & Mahalo! (& “Goodnight Gracie!)

Timeless.
@hippytreehugger4ever …The “grooving out” guy at 2:58 and at the end was character actor James Millican.
Am I the only one that finds this song strangely catchy? haha I’ve been singing it all day since I watched this! Love it!
It’s funny to watch the guy grooving out next to her at 2:58
If any of you want to me to put on more material I will.
George visited her grave everyday. Early on he was the straight man. He claimed he learned comedy from her.
When she died he was lost. He was asked to do Neil Simon’s,The Sunshine Boys. He was not the first choice. Jack Benny was. But he was dying. Jack recommended George. It was 30+ years between movies. George won an Oscar! That will never be done again. George was performing until 99 1/2. We are blessed that he was with us so long.
continue from below.
Gracie , “George I’m going to have a kidney to kidney talk with myself”
George, ” Gracie isn’t that heart to heart”.
Gracie, ” George you don’t know anything”. How many hearts do you have?
George ” One”.
Gracie ” How many kidneys do you have?
George “Two”
Gracie ” Then how can you have a heart to heart talk with yourself if you only have one heart.”
George loved it. He said he both cried and laughed when reading it. He was totally devoted to her.
When George was in his 80′s I did autograph shows and also sent for them .George would send me 3 at a time.I told him I could do comedy especialy Gracie Style. He asked me to send him some material . I say this humbly but he called me after reading the first script and asked if I would write comedy for him. I did so from when he was 89 to 97. I did some “Gracie “scripts . I had Gracie do wise sayings Gracie style and somehow they made sense when she explained them. George loved them. – Continue
